Aneeta Sundararaj published the first book, Mad Heaven: The Biography of Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. M. Mahadevan in 2004. Some 10 years later, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Azlanii Dr. M. Mahadevan self-published an updated version of the book with new photographs, information and, of course, stories. Here’s the blurb on the back of this book:

This compelling biography of Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Azlanii Dr. M. Mahadevan presents the story of a man of astounding courage, determination, compassion and stamina. This tale begins with his birth in colonial Malaya in 1929 and, soon, there are glimpses of adventures in India, America, Ireland, Belgium, Argentina and many more places around the world. Intertwined with this gifted psychiatrist’s travels are stories of horse riding, polo, snake charming, sojourns in cults and even experimenting with hallucinogenic drugs. In Malaysia, he created a blueprint and implemented community care amongst the mentally ill and those with drug problems. The ideology, challenges, triumphs, misgivings and frustrations narrated in this biography all add colour to this enigmatic man’s life who was, at the very least of his achievements, once the Chief Psychiatrist to the Government of Malaysia.
